This hike from Chamonix to Zermatt, from France to Swizerland, is the easy version of the famous "Haute route". The itinerary links by trails and passes two world mountain capitals. You will enjoy the cachet of the authentic swiss villages.

Itinerary
J 1/ Montroc - Balme pass - Trient
Meeting in Montroc, in Chamonix valley.We hike up the Posettes path, on the ridge beetween the Aiguilles Rouges meadows and the Mont Blanc glaciers, to reach the Balme pass, border with Swizerland and amazing overlook on the whole range. Hike down to the Swiss village of Trient (1326 m). The guide will present the program for the week and the basics for a safe hike. Diner and night in a hostel.

J 2/ Trient - Bovine - Champex
Hiking towards the mountain pastures of Bovine (1987 m), view-point on the Valais region. Overlooked by the Génépi and the Clochers of Arpette summits, our trail gently leaves the mountain pastures towards the forests in direction of the lake and the village of Champex. Diner and night in country cottage.6 h hike, A: 600 m, D: 950 m.
J 3/ Champex - Grande Dixence - Riedmatten pass - Arolla
Transfer to the Grande Dixence dam (2025 m) and hike up to the Riedmatten pass (2919 m), then down to Arolla (2067 m), a scenic village full of flowered country cottages, at the boundaries of the beautiful val d'Hérens. Diner and night in a hostel.7 h hike, A: 900 m, D: 950 m.
J 4/ Arolla - Mayens de Cotter - Torrent pass - Moiry lake - Zinal
Transfer to the gorgeous hamlet of Mayens de Cotter (2160 m). The trail through flowered pastures leads to the Torrent pass (2918 m), then by the Autannes and Moiry lakes (2250 m). Depending on the will and shape of the group, the guide will decide if we hike up the "corne de Sorebois" or around it through the village of Grimentz and the val d'Anniviers forests before reaching Zinal eitherway (cable car optional). Diner and night in a hostel.7 h hike, A: 800 m, D: 1300 m.
J 5/ Zinal - Forcletta pass - Turtmantal - Gruben
We leave val d'Anniviers heading towards the Forcletta pass (2894 m). From this great view point, we overlook the Turtmantal pastures, the Gruben valley (1822 m), and the glaciers of Bishorn and Weisshorn, peaks over 4000 meters high. Diner and night in Gruben in a hostel.7 h hike, A: 1200 m, D: 1050 m.
J 6/ Gruben - Augstbord pass - Jungu - St Niklaus - Zermatt
We head towards the log cabins of Zum. The Augstbord pass (2894 m), high but easy, is the last altitude path of our hike. Lower, we tka ethe cable car to Saint Niklaus. Transfer and night in Zermatt, pleasant pedestrian village.6 h hike, A: 1000 m, D: 950 m.
J 7/ Zermatt - Zmutt - Zermatt
Hike up the the village of Zmutt, postcard-looking landscape at the bottom of Matterhorn.End of the tour in Zermatt in the afternoon.
