Itinerary
D 1/ Montroc - Balme pass - Albert 1er hut
Meeting at the train station in Montroc, in Chamonix valley. Cable car to the Balme pass to reach the balcony trail to Albert 1er hut (2702 m). We can admire the seracs of the Tour glacier. The guide will present the program, equipment and techniques for everyone's security. Diner and night in the hut.
2 h 30 hike. A : 550 m.
D 2/ Albert 1er hut - upper Tour pass - Val d’Arpette hostel
We cross the Swiss border at the Tour pass and cross the Trient glacier to hike down to the Orny hut and take de Breya chair lift down to Champex. Short hike up to the Arpette hostel (1688 m) where we will spend the night (shower possible). The peacefull environment, the great landscape, the warm welcome of our hosts and the comfort of the hostel will delight everyone.
6 à 7 h hike. A: 750 m. D : 1000 m.
D 3/ Val d’Arpette hostel - Mauvoisin lake - Chanrion hut
Short tranfer from the village of Champex to the Mauvoisin dam and lake. Hike up in the flowered meadows to the Chanrion hut (2462 m). A quiet day before three nights in high altitude huts.
4 h hike. A: 650 m, D : 180 M.
D 4/ Chanrion hut - Chermotane pass - Vignettes hut
Long way up the huge Otemma glacier to the Chermotane pass (3053 m). Behind is the Vignettes hut (3158 m), hanging on the edge of the mountain.
6 h 30 hike. A: 800 m. D : 120 m.
D 5/ Vignettes hut - Evêque pass - Bertol pass
Large detour, between glaciers and moraines, around the Eveque (Bishop), through the nameskae pass (3392 m), overlooking the d’Hérens and the village of Arolla. A steep hike leads up the Bertol hut Bertol (3311 m), wonderfull overlook, that we reach using a few scales.
7 h hike. A: 1150 m. D : 1000 m.
D 6/ Bertol pass - Tête Blanche - Schönbiel hut
Amzing day on this haute route ! We cross the glacial plateau toTête Blanche (3721 m), extraordinary overlook facing the Matterhorn and offering a 360° panorama! Spectacular way down the Stockji glacier, in a maze of crevasses, then on a steep trail before hike up to Schönbiel hut (2694 m), at the bottom of Matterhorn's north face!
7 h hike. A: 650 m. D : 1300 m.
J 7/ Schönbiel hut - Zmutt - Zermatt
The path down to Zermatt is easy. Through peacefull trail and flowered meadows, where stand numerous log cabins, we reach the final destination of our haute route in late morning.
3 h 30 hike. D : 1100 m.
