Around a mythical mountain range, the Matterhorn hiking tour contemplates numerous peaks above 4000 meters. Along this hike, you will discover the glacial passes of Collon and Teodulo, basecamp for the first Matterhorn summiters. You will then experience maybe for the first time mountaineering techniques.

Itineray
D 1/ St Niklaus - Jungu - Augstbord pass - Gruben-Meiden
Meeting at Jungu lift station at St Niklaus at 09:00 am. Transfer by cable car to Jungu, charming little village (1955 m) facing the splendid Mischabel domes. We leave the scattered forest for the pastures and the screes of Augstbord pass (2894 m). Hike down into the larches in the Meiden and Gruben valley (1825 m), authetic mountain hamlets. Diner and nigh in a hostel.6 h hike. A: 950 m. D: 1050 m.
D 2/ Gruben-Meiden - Forcletta pass - Zinal
Hike from the Turtmann valley. Nice path to the Forcletta pass (2874 m) where the panorama goes from the Dent Blanche to the Mont Blanc. We reach the Val d'Anniviers, overlooked by the glacial peaks of Zinal. Hike down to the town of Zinal (1675 m). Diner and nigh in a hostel.7 h hike. A: 1030 m. D: 1200 m.
D 3/ Zinal - Moiry lake - Torrent pass - Mayens de Cotters - Les Haudères - Arolla
In order to avoid a long hike in the forest to circle the corne de Sorebois, we use the namesake cable car to gain altitude. Hike up to the Sorebois pass (2835 m) where we can see the village of Grimentz before reaching the Moiry lake (2250 m). Hike up through the pastures of the Torrent pass (2918 m), above the calm Autannes lake. The viewon the dent Blanche and the Grand Cornier is beautiful. Hike down to les Mayens de Cotters (1740 m) and transfer through the Haudères valley and its typical log cabins to Arolla. Diner and night in a hotel.5 à 6 h hike. A: 1060 m. D: 1450 m.
D 4/ Arolla - Collon pass - Prarayer
Early startat the bottom of the upper Arolla glacier, that we hike up easily. The surrounding peaks and the Collon pass offer a fantastic high mountain atmosphere. This compulsory path at 3087 meters, between Italy and Swizerland, was once used by shepherds and their flock. Hike down various landscapes : from the glaciers to the valley through pastures and forests. Diner and night in Prarayer (2005 m).8 h hike. A : 1000 m. D : 1080 m.
D 5/ Prarayer - Valcounera pass - Perucca-Vuillermoz hut
The restored antic tail to reach the next valley presents a few steep passages. In the last glen before the Valcounera pass (3066 m), our steps resound on the huge stone blocks. Great atmosphere ! After passing the little pass, the hike down is quick to the Perucca hut (2900 m), between lakes and waterfalls, where we spend the night.6 h hike. A: 1080 m. D: 200 m.
D 6/ Perucca-Vuillermoz hut - Cignana pass - Breuil-Cervinia - Plan Maison - Teodulo pass and hut
The Matterhorn is now grand, with his massive Italian face. We hoike down to the touristic resort of Breuil-Cervinia (2006 m). We take the cable car up to Plan-Maison. We then hike up to the Teodulo hut (3317 m), key passage between Matterhorn and Mont Rose, where we spend the night.7 h hike. A : 950m. D: 1050 m.
D 7/ Teodulo hut - Trockener Steg - Furi - Zermatt
From Teodulo, we cross the easy glacier to Trockener Steg (2939 m), where the Matterhorn offers its most photogenic face, above a splendid rocky and glacial environment. The trail to Furi (1864 m) gets further and further away from the glaciers, to reach the flowered meadows. Last cable car transfer to Zermatt (1616 m). End of the tour at Zermatt station.4 h hike. D: 1450 m.
