This self-guided Tour du Mont Blanc uses the numerous different itineraries around the top of western Europe to offer a beautiful hike through wild valleys and easy passes. Majestic, the Mont Blanc overlooks each of our steps on the trails of France, Italy and Swizerland.

Itinerary

D 1/ Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge - Plan Jovet - Bonhomme pass - Croix du Bonhomme pass

Meeting early morning at the train station in Saint Gervais-le Fayet.
Start from the parking at the end of the Contamines-Montjoie valley (around 5 €, by bus, 8h40 in le Fayet, arrival at the parking at 9h15). Hike up the Bonhomme pass and night in the Croix du Bonhomme pass hut.
4 h 30 hike. A: 1250 m.

D 2/ Croix du Bonhomme pass hut - Fours pass - Glaciers valley

Hike above the hut to the Fours pass, where there is a good chance to see ibex. Great panorama on the Mont Blanc and the south face glaciers. From the Fours pass (2716 m), hike down the bottom of the Glaciers valley. Diner and night in the Mottets hut where you will find your luggage.
4 h hike. A: 450 m.

D 3/ Refuge des Mottets - col de la Seigne - val Vény - col Chécroui

Hike up the pastures of the Seigne pass where you catch a glance of the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Hike down in the beautiful Val Veny before hiking back up on one of the nicest balcony in the area, the Chécroui pass. Diner and night in a hostel (1956 m).
6 h hike. A: 950 m. D: 500 m.

D 4/ Col Chécroui - Courmayeur - Arnuva - grand col Ferret - Ferret - Champex

Hike down to the Italian village of Courmayeur on a large trail or by the cable car.Bus or taxi to Arnuva (bus around 2,5 €, every hour). Hike up the Grand Ferret pass (2537 m), where we cross the Swiss border.  Hike down on Ferret (1740 m). Bus to Champex (around 5 €, 15 h 30 or 17 h 30). Diner and night in a hostel.
7 h hike. A: 950 m. D: 800 m.


D 5/ Champex - fenêtre d'Arpette ou les Bovines - Trient

From Val d'Arpette, we recommand the wildest and most beautiful option on the tour, but careful, it is longer and harder. At the "Arpette window"  (2665 m), small breach in the mountain, you hike down to the village of Trient (1280 m). If you don't feel like going through this way or if the weather is bad, use the Bovine path to reach Trient. Diner and night in a hostel.
Through Bovine, 5 h hike. A: 700 m, D: 850 m.
Through Arpette, 6 to 7 h hike. A: 1100 m et D: 1400 m (for good hikers).

D 6/ Trient - Balme pass- Montroc

From Trient, you reach the French boder at the Balme pass. The view ont the whole Mont Blanc range and the Chamonix valley is fabulous. Hike down in the Montroc pastures or cable car. You will meet the taxi to retrieve your luggage. End of the tour in Montroc.
5 to 6 h hike. A: 900 m. D: 800 m.

NB : In this self-guided tour, you are responsible of your itinerary. You must know how to read a map and use a compass. The road book that we give you will help you on your way. You can ask your hosts for precise information on the trails.
