Vanoise is the most accessible and the most famous national park in France, renown for its very diverse wildlife and flora. It is a great place to hike and discover the natural treasures of the mountains. This hike on beautiful balcony trails, in the heart of the range, overlooks the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys.

Itinerary
D 1/ Pralognan-la-Vanoise - Arcelin - Vanoise pass
Meeting in Pralognan. Hike up to the Fontanettes (1844 m), little hamlet above the valley. You enter the Vanoise national park. Hike up at the foot of the impressive Vanoise spike to the Vanoise pass, at the bottom of Grande Casse, the highest peak in the range. Diner and night in the hut (2517 m).
4 h hike. A: 1050 m.
D 2/ Vanoisepass - Croë-Vie - Les Lozières - Arpont hut
Traverse along the Vanoise river between the Mathews and the Réchasse spikes. You pass above the Croë-Vie bridge and at the Lozières lakes (2410 m). Balcony trails under the impressive Vanoise glaciers. Possible encounter with ibex! Diner and night in the Arpont hut (2309 m).
5 h hike. A: 250 m, D: 450 m.
Not much hike up today to reach the Aussois dams, above the Maurienne valley. The balcony trail, at the foot of the "Parrachée tooth", links the different pasture cabins. Beautiful panorama on the passes and peaks on the Italian border. End of the day on the banks of the lakes. Diner and night in the hut (2517 m).
D 3/ Arpont hut - Plan d'Amont and plan d'Aval lakes
6 h hike. A: 400 m, D: 200 m.
D 4/ Plan d'Aval - Barbier pass - l'Orgère
To reach the small and wild glen of Orgère, you cross the Barbier pass (2287 m), still overlooking the Maurienne valley. Diner and night in the Orgère hut (1935 m).
3 h hike. A: 150 m, D: 600 m.
D 5/ L'Orgère - Partie lake - Chavière pass - Péclet-Polset.
Hike up to the Partie lake (2458 m). The Chavière pass (2796 m) is a small breach in the ridge between Péclet-Polset and the Echelle spike, glacial peaks. Hike down to Péclet-Polset hut (2533 m).
5 h hike. A: 900 m, D: 500 m.
D 6/ Péclet-Polset - Les Prioux - Pralognan-la-Vanoise
Peaceful hike down facing the impressive Grande Casse to the Prioux hamlet and on to Pralognan, your starting point.
4 h hike. D: 500 m.
NB : In this self-guided tour, you are responsible of your itinerary. You must know how to read a map and use a compass. The road book that we give you will help you on your way. You can ask your hosts for precise information on the trails.
