This snowshoe tour around Mont Blanc leads you from the bottom of the valleys to the most amazing overlooks on the prestigious Mont Blanc range. The night in a hut or in Courmayeur, on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, will offer you incredible panoramas on the steepest face of the top of Europe and on the Grandes Jorasses.

Itinerary

 

D 1/ Argentière – Presentation of the program and security equipment

Meeting at La Couronne hotel in Argentière (1245 m) at 5 pm. We settle down n this hotel for 4 nights. Our guide will present the programme and the security techniques and equipment for our snowshoe tour.

D 2/ Vallorcine – Chalet de Loriaz – Vallon de la Chevrette - Argentière

Transfer by train/bus to Vallorcine, last village before the Swiss border. From the Courteray, we hike up quietly to the Nant de Loria bridge and the namesake hamlet. The panorama is amazing ! After the pic-nic, we hike down in the Chevrette valley to our starting point. Diner and night at the hotel.
5 h snowshoe. A and D: 650m.

D 3/ Aiguilles Rouges : plateau de Carlaveyron

Transfer by train/bus to Chamonix. We take the cable car up to the Brévent (2500 m). We hike facing the Mont Blanc to the Tête de Bel Lachat (2276m)  and to the namesake pass. We get to the  pointe de Lapaz (2313 m). We hike back to the cable car that we use to return to Chamonix. Diner and night at the hotel.
4 h 30 snowshoe. A and D: 580 m.

D 4/ Les Houches : Bionnassay and Col de Voza

Transfer to the village of Champel. We hike up to the very typical village of Bionnassay, covered with snow. We head toward the Voza pass (1653 m) where the view on the Aiguilles de Chamonix is beautiful ! We take the cable car down to Les Houches. Transfer by train back to Argentière. Diner and night at the hotel.
5 h snowshoe. A: 650 m and D: 150m.

Option 1 : Night in a mountain hut in Italy:

D 5/ Argentière – Val Ferret – Bonatti hut

Early start with the train and bus to Chamonix, Courmayeur, and finally Planpincieux where we put on our snowshoes. We hike up the beautiful Val Ferret up to the small hamlet of La Vachey (1642m). Here starts the final uphill to reach the Bonatti hut (2056m). Tonight, the atmosphere is as typical as the panorama on the Grandes Jorasses is beautiful!
4 h 30 snowshoe. A: 500m.

D 6/ Refuge Bonatti – Col d’Entre Deux Sauts - Chamonix

Early start. We hike up the Malatra valley and reach the Entre Deux Sauts pass : beautiful and wild. We hike down back to Bonatti hut, then Arnuva and Planpincieux, end of our trip. Back to Argentière in late afternoon (around 5:30 pm).
6 h snowshoe. A: 500 m and D: 950m.

Option 2 : 2 days snowshoeing around Courmayeur:

D 5/ Argentière – Val Ferret - Courmayeur

Early start with the train and bus to Chamonix, Courmayeur, and finally Planpincieux where we put on our snowshoes. We hike up the beautiful Val Ferret up to the small hamlet of La Vachey (1642m) and further if we want. Tonight, the atmosphere is typical and the view on the Grandes Jorasses is beautiful!
Diner and night in a hotel or a hostel.
4 h snowshoe. A: 250m

D 6/ Courmayeur – La Thuile – Col San Carlo - Chamonix

We take the bus early in the morning to La Thuile, village/resort, with great opprtunities and less crowded than Courmayeur. We pass through the hamlet of Thovez and reach the typical site of Les Granges (1725 m). A last uphill leads us to the San Carlo pass (1951 m) and if the conditions are good to the top of Testa d’Arc (2022m). The view on the steep Italian side of Mont Blanc is breathtaking! Back to la Thuile and Argentière in late afternoon (around 5:30 pm).
5 h snowshoe. A and D: 600m.

Note : The choice between option 1 and 2 will be made by the guide according to the weather, the snow conditions and the level of the group. The hike up to Bonatti hut requires stable snow and can only be considered after mid-february.
