On the prestigious trails of the Tour du Mont Blanc, following the quiet pace of the donkeys, the whole family hikes, with the children. With a safe logistic, this itinerary is made to discover the pleasure of hiking while learning how to take care of the donkeys, in a beautiful environment. This hike is adapted to children, parents and grand-parents.

Itinerary

D 1/ Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet - Le Champel - Chalets de Miage

Meeting in late morning at the train station in Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet. Transfer to Bionnassay where we meet the donkeys. We prepare the bags and load them on the donkeys. The guide will present the hike and the basics to take care and lead the donkeys. We start walking towards Champel, above val Montjoie, before getting to the Miage hut (1559 m), in a beautiful pasture at the bottom of the Miage domes. Diner and night in the hut.
2 h hike. A: 370 m. D: 350 m.


D 2/ Chalets de Miage – La Frasse – Notre Dame de la Gorge - Nant-Borrant

We reach the "chalets du Truc" (1720 m) with a great view on the Miage glacier. Hike down between Mont Blanc and Beaufortain in the Val Montjoie where we enjoy the calm of the forests. At the bottom of the valley, our caravan  walks along a botanical trail and then on a former roman road to reach Notre Dame de la Gorge chapel and finally our hostel in Nant-Borrant (1460 m) where we spend the night.
4 h 30 hike. A: 500 m. D: 600 m.


D 3/ Nant-Borrant hostel – La Balme – Croix du Bonhomme hut

We hike in the Contamines-Montjoie nature reserve, towards the Croix du Bonhomme pass, a famous path in the Alps. We reach la Balme and the Jovet pastures where we will probably see marmots running around! Children will love it. We gain altitude progressively to reach the Bonhomme pass (2329 m), then the Croix du Bonhomme pass (2479 m) where the rocky mountain sides have replace the quiet pastures. We spend the night in a mountain hut, only reachable on foot.

D 4/
Croix du Bonhomme hut – Tête Nord des Fours – Les Chapieux

The tired ones can rest at the hut this morning with the donkeys while the most courageous will hike up the Tête Nord des Fours where the panorama on Mont Blanc and the  rest of the Alps is amazing. We may also meet the ibew that live around here. Back to the hut, we get the donkeys ready for the hike down in the meadows to the village of les Chapieux.
5 h hike (3 h sans la montée à la Tête Nord des Fours). A: 300 m. D: 1200 m.

D 5/ Les Chapieux – Ville des Glaciers – Seigne pass – Elisabetta hut

We say goodbye to Anne-Marie to hike up the valley to the"City of Glaciers" where we visit a cheese factory. You will learn how the Beaufort, famous and delicious local cheese, is made and enjoy some tasting. We continue our hike towards les Mottets and the Seigne pass (2516 m), the Italian border! We enter the rocky Val Veny, where we have a good chance to see chamois. We spend the night in Elisabetta hut (2185 m), at the bottom of Lée Blanche and Estelette glaciers, after a typical Italian evening.
5 h hike. A: 950 m. D: 300 m.

D 6/ Elisabetta hut – Chécroui pass – Plan Ponquier – Saint Gervais Le Fayet

Our last day start under the impressive Miage glacier heading towards the Combal lake. A balcony trail leads us to Chécroui pass(1956 m). The view on the "steep" side of Mont Blanc is fabulous! We hike down one last time to Plan Ponquier (1500 m) where we meet Xavier, the donkey breeder we met in Bionnassay. Transfer back by minibus to Saint Gervais Le Fayet in the afternoon.
4 h 30 hike. A: 400 m. D: 700 m.
