Hiking : a relatively accessible activity, hiking offers the opportunity to explore a country or a region up close, on foot, and to meet and mingle with the locals. On a traverse or loop, whatever your skill level, embark on one of our through-hikes to immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the great outdoors.
Level 2: An average of 4 to 5 hours of hiking per day on a well-marked hilly path or trail.
Level 3: An average of 4 to 5 hours of hiking per day on well-marked trails and/or 600 to 800 meters of vertical gain, and/or distances up to 15 kilometers.Level 4: An average of 6 hours of hiking per day on well-marked trails or off trail, and/or 700 to 1000 meters of vertical gain, and/or distances of 15 to 18 kilometers.
Level 5: An average of more than 6 hours of hiking per day off trail or on rugged terrain, with more than 1000 meters of vertical gain (and/or distances up to 20 kilometers). Possibly sections at high altitude.
Level 6: An average of more than 7 to 8 hours of strenuous hiking per day off trail or on rugged terrain, with more than 1000 meters of vertical gain and/or distances up to 20 kilometers. Possibly sections at high altitude.

Hike through the mountainous countryside near the Italian border, in the hinterland of Nice, to the splendid town of Menton, on the famous Côte d'Azur. The route offers superb paths and breathtaking panoramas through dense forests, narrow valleys, and picturesque gorges, punctuated by historic villages perched on mountainsides. Immerse yourself in Franco-Italian culture and history, shaped by alternating periods of domination. Discover the medieval towns of Tende and La Brigue, Breil, and Sospel with their Baroque churches before arriving at Saint-Agnès, a belvedere overlooking the azure Mediterranean. In Menton, discover the colorful facades of the houses in the heart of the old town, the small fishing port, the covered market, and the exhilarating spectacle of the Côte d'Azur.

Day 1
Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende

Arrival in Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, in the heart of the Roya Valley. Installation in a two-star hotel for 2 nights.
Day 2
La Brigue - Tende
Distance : 9.5 km (6 mi) -
Ascent : 700 m (2296 ft). Descent : 700 m (2296 ft).

Visit two fantastic medieval villages packed with history, both as charming as the walk itself. You first will join La Brigue a very small medieval village and then Tende. Tende is amazing with his large cathedral.
Day 3
Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende - Saorge
Distance : 16 km (10 mi) -
Ascent : 950 m (3117 ft). Descent : 950 m (3117 ft).

Spend an exciting day walking from one remote village to another. All of the buildings and homes are made with dry stone walls and with roofs from local slate. Night in a guest house in Saorge. If this guest house is full, you will spend the night in a guest house in Fontan.
Day 4
Saorge - Breil-sur-Roya taking the old salt road
Distance : 9.5 km (6 mi) -
Ascent : 700 m (2296 ft). Descent : 800 m (2625 ft).

Saorge, an extraordinary village built into the steep hillside, will enthrall you. The same is true of Breil-sur-Roya, where you will have the chance to see one of its famous organs, made by the Italian craftsmen whose masterpieces inspired the valley's name: the "Vallée des Orgues" (Organ Valley).Today the trail is hilly, often on the side of the mountain, except for a steep staircase, forged in the cliff, and secured by railings and handrails. Dinner and overnight stay at Breil-sur-Roya.
Day 5
Breil-sur-Roya-Sospel by way of Piène-Haute
Distance : 15.5 km (9.5 mi) -
Ascent : 550 m (1805 ft). Descent : 550 m (1805 ft).

A strikingly beautiful trail takes you to a very well preserved "perched village." Visit the chapel among olive grove, and take in the extraordinary views of a gorge that is partly in France and partly in Italy. Night in a hotel in Sospel.
Day 6
Sospel-Sainte-Agnès
Distance : 13.5 km (8.5 mi) -
Ascent : 810 m (2657 ft). Descent : 200 m (656 ft).

The remains of a fortified castle, the cathedral, and many other historic buildings testify to the importance over the centuries of this old village. After Sospel, continue walking to Sainte-Agnès, the village where you will catch your first views of the sea. Night in a B&B or hotel in Sainte-Agnès.

Sainte-Agnès - Menton
Distance : 15.5 km (9.5 mi) -
Ascent : 250 m (820 ft). Descent : 580 m (1900 ft) .
