Day 1

Welcome to Interlaken

Lodging : hotel. Meals not included.
Upon arrival in Interlaken, settle into your hotel for 2 nights and take a leisurely walk through the charming town, where the lively streets are surrounded by traditional Swiss buildings and the magnificent peaks of the Jungfrau, Eiger, and Mönch mountains. Breathe in the fresh Alpine air as you enjoy panoramic views of the turquoise waters of Lake Thun. Take some time to relax and soak up the vibrant atmosphere before setting off on your adventure.
Day 2

Harder Kulm, top of Interlaken

Distance : 9,5 km max (5,9 mi) - Ascent : 785 m (2,575 ft). Descent : 785 m (2,575 ft). 4 h 30 of hiking.
Lodging : hotel. Meals: depending on the options.
At 1322 meters (4,335 ft) above sea level ,the Harder Kulm - the nearest mountain to Interlaken - promises overwhelming views of Interlaken and the peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. If you have a head for heights, venture onto the overhanging Zwei-Seen-Steg (‘Two Lakes Bridge') for even more panoramic views. This is a perfect introduction to our trip into the Bernese mountains.
Day 3

Bachalpsee from Grindenwald-First

Distance : 8 km max (5 mi) - Ascent : 325 m max (1,066 ft). Descent : 920 m max (3,020 ft). 4 h of hiking.
Lodging : hotel. Meals: depending on the options.

After breakfast, leave Interlaken by train to Grindenwald. The Eiger village is nestled in a lovely green valley, surrounded by imposing peaks, such as the Eiger North Wall (3 967 m /13,015 feet) and the Wetterhorn (3 690 m / 12,100 ft). This hike leads over a broad, well-developed path past the flowering alpine meadows to the Bachalpsee.  The sharp, jagged peaks of the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn on the opposite side of the valley are impressive. The route leads you to Bort where you can take the gondola down to Grindenwald or choose to descend by mountain cart for more fun (not included). Once in Grindenwald, two options to reach you hotel in Wengen : by train via the Kleine Scheidegg pass or with the areal cable train via Männlichen.

Day 4

Männlichen to Wengen

Distance : 16 km max (10 mi) - Ascent : 350 m (1,150 ft). Descent : 1150 max (3,775 ft). 5 h 30 max of hiking.
Lodging : hotel. Meals: depending on the options.
A triad of giants; the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau, dominate the breathtaking views along this scenic hike from Männlichen to Wengen above the Lauterbrunner valley. Complete the entiry walk or take advantage of the train along the route, from Kleine Scheidegg, to reduce the distance to Wengen.
Day 5

The Eiger trail (Jungfraujoch top of Europe optional ascent by train)

Distance : 7 km (4,5 mi) - Ascent : 900 m (2,950 ft). Descent : 250 m (820 ft). 4 h of hiking.
Lodging : hotel. Meals: depending on the options.
Take the train to Alpiglen via Kleine Scheidegg. The day starts with the famous Eiger trail journeying at the foot of the Eiger north face, one of the most scenic moment this week. Then, once reaching Eigerglestscher station, you have the option to jump into the train to the top of Europe end station of Jungfraujoch at 3 454 meters (11,332 ft). Note that this ascent is not included in the price and a supplement will be asked on site when presenting your Jungfrau Pass. After the visit reach Kleine Scheidegg train station and take a ride down to Lauterbrunner, and finally reach Mürren for the next 2 nights.
Day 6

The North face trail from Mürren

Distance : 9,5 km (6 mi) - Ascent : 320 m (1,050 ft). Descent : 320 m (1,050 ft). 4 h 30 of hiking.
Lodging : hotel. Meals: depending on the options.
The Northface Trail in Mürren has a little bit of everything...stunning mountain views, small hamlets and chalets tucked away amidst the mountains, flower-filled alpine meadows, and pastures filled with cows and their musical bells. This is an easy walking trail that is done as a loop from Mürren. Along the way, you are treated to spectacular views of Mönch, Eiger, and Jungfrau as well as views over the Lauterbrunnen Valley. You also have the option to add on Sprutz waterfall.

Note : Mürren offers many hiking possibilities. We have selected the essential one that you will find in the roadbook in addition to those described here.
Day 7

The mountain view trail from Mürren

Distance : 10 km max (6,5 mi) - Ascent : 685 max (2,250 ft). Descent : 820 max (2,690 ft). 2 to 5 hrs of hiking.
Lodging : hotel. Meals: depending on the options.
For your last hiking day, walk along the mountain view trail in direction of Grütschalp. A panorama walk overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley and dominated by views of the three Bernese Oberland giants, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The route leads through moorland scenery, over mountain meadows full of flowers, blueberry bushes and Alpine roses. From Grutschalp, take the lift down to Lauterbrunnen and then a train to Interlaken for you last night in Oberland.
Day 8

End of the trip Interlaken

Included meals : breakfast. Meals not included : lunch, dinner.
Enjoy your last breakfast before checking out. Take the time to explore Zermatt before heading off.

If you wish to arrive earlier or extend your stay, it's essential to book your accommodation in advance. We can arrange one or more extra nights at one of our partner hotels. Just ask!

Currencies

Switerzland doesn't belong to Euro zone. The Swiss use their own currency, the Swiss Franc. The exchange rate is approximately 1 CHF = 1 EUR.
Swiss shops and hotels may take euros (usually in bills only, and change in CHF), and usually offer an unfavorable exchange rate (for you). You are better off paying by credit/debit card or withdrawing cash from an ATM.

Access

Access

This trip starts and ends in Interlaken, located in Switzerland. The city has exceptional national and international transport links. The nearest airport for this tour is Bern (BRN) but you can also arrive via Geneva airport (GVA) or Zurich airport (ZRH). From these different airports, it's easy to find either a shared bus ride, train tickets or a private taxi.

From Zurich airport:

By train, probably the easiest way, with the CFF company. Taking approximately 2 hours. You'll have a direct line, but you may also find trains with a connection, usually at Bern station.
Trains depart regularly every 30 to 60 minutes, with a price of approximately 40 to 60 CHF for a one-way ticket in second class.

From Geneva airport:

Same as Zurich, the train is the easiest way to reach Interlaken. Taking approximately 3 hours. Expect a connection (usually at Bern station).
Trains depart regularly every 30 to 60 minutes, with a price of approximately 50 to 70 CHF for a one-way ticket in second class.

From Bern airport:

By train, expect about 1 hour of travel to reach Interlaken.
Trains depart regularly every 30 minutes, with a price of approximately 20 to 30 CHF for a one-way ticket in second class.  

Note: The Swiss public transport network is extremely well-connected and is famous for its punctuality, safety and frequency. Trains to Interlaken depart from all of Switzerland's major towns at least every hour.


Getting in Interlaken by car:

Interlaken is well signposted on the autobahns and easy to find. Once in Interlaken, you can pay your parking charges with the Sepp app.

Depending on your preferences, we can aslo arrange a transfer by private or shared taxi. Please let us know your flight schedule so that we can organize your transfer as early as possible and in the most suitable time slot.

Travel documents

We provide you with a complete roadbook with precise directions for following the trails, maps on a scale useful for hiking and finally, all the content of your trip accessible from your smartphone, including geolocation.

Transfers

This is perhaps the most important thing you have to know about your trip : the 6 day Jungfrau Travel Pass will give you unlimited access to the train and cable-car required for this program.

We provide you with a pass (https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfrau-travel-pass/) which gives you access to the entire Jungfrau railway network as well as certain cable cars. The entire hiking program is based on the idea of always being able to reach your hotel using the train, as the main mode of transport. Please note, however, that the pass does not cover all of the ski lifts in the area and if you wish, for example, to use one of them, you will have to pay the price on site. But if you follow the program as we designed it, you will not have to pay any additional fees.

Except for the Jungfraujoch connecting ticket : this will be an additional cost for you. If you decide to to go to the top, you will have to pay this supplement on site. 

Eigergletscher - Jungfraujoch return : about 75 CHF per person.

Lodging

You will stay in a selection of very comfortable 3 star hotels in private double room with en-suite bathroom (single room on request).

On request we can upgrade you in a room with a special view, or balcony, or in 4 star hotels.

Note: most of the hotels take advantage of the view to create different room categories. Our price is based on a standard room.

Here is a sample of the hotel we use:
  • In Interlaken : the Hey hotel, in the center of Interlaken, close to the train station, in an old building entirely restored in a boutique style hotel.
  • In Wengen : Bären hotel, nice and charming family hotel with an exceptional alpine herbs jardin, probably one of the best restaurant in a warm atmosphere surrounded by the breathtaking Swiss alps.
  • In Mürren : Edelweiss hotel, close to the train station, in the middle of the village, well know for its magnificent view and good restaurant.
Note : take in consideration that the Oberland region is well demanded and that these hotels described above have quite a little capacity. Once reserving your tour, we can adapt it to the season and offer you other places to stay. Of course, theses addresses are not just a second choice, we do work with different partners in each village with the same standard of quality.

Meals

Two options are available for this tour :

  • Half-board option: we will take care of booking your dinners in the different hotels where you will be staying. Breakfast will be waiting for you each morning in the hotels where you will be staying.
    Dinners are free in Interlaken (day 1, day 2 and day 7)
  • Bed and breakfast option: Breakfast will be waiting for you each morning in the hotels where you will be staying, but you are responsible for arranging your dinners. Please note that, in summer, it can sometimes be difficult to get a table at a restaurant if you don't book in advance.
For your lunches, there are few grocery stores and small shops all along the tour where you will also be able to purchase food supplies. Also, your accommodations should be able to cater to your needs as well. And, during your hikes, you can find some huts by the way that offer good hot meals.

Luggage transfer

Luggage transportation is possible in two different ways :

 — By train : you leave you luggage at the train station in the morning and, at the end of the day, you get it back at the next train station. Service city to city, the most economic but be careful with the type of bag you will use to make it the most comfortable for you to carry it from the hotel to the train station.

— Full assistance and transportation : our taxi partner is responsible for moving your bag from one place to the other. You leave your bag in the morning at the reception desk, you get it at the reception desk of the next hotel after the hike. This service has an extra cost, see extra services.

Trails

Well-marked itinerary, previously recognized by our guides. You are in charge of your route and must know how to read a map and use a compass. You also have precise directions in the "Mon Roadbook" app and in the paper roadbook that will be given to you before departure (maps, descriptive plan, specific information...). The "Mon Roadbook" app allows you to centralize all the necessary information for your trip:
  • The identification of service providers operating during your stay
  • GPS guidance on a map background
  • Photos of crossings
  • The various points of interest on the hike: natural or heritage.

This application, included for this trip, must be downloaded before your departure and works offline (without network).

For each stage, make sure you check the latest information on trail conditions; the manager at your accommodations should also be able to provide you with up-to-date information if you ask.

Itineraries

Our elevation gains are calculated based on altitude differences provided on maps, not by GPS, which, for technical reasons (GPS altitude inaccuracies + statistical dispersion), often give overestimated elevation gains, sometimes by up to 20%.

What you need to know

Be prepared for the weather:
The weather in mountains can change very quickly. the weather forecast is quite accurate for the next 3 upcoming days, but not that much further. Thunderstorms are common in the afternoon when the weather is hot, they are very located and show up very quickly. Wake up earlier in the morning when the weather forecast announces it, you will have crossed the high pass before it starts. Passes and ridge are not safe is the case of thunder. Take advice from your host the day before.

Considering the Environment:
While trekking you have to be careful not to destroy the environment you are enjoying so much. It is not only for your enjoyment, but people and wildlife also rely on this environment.
 
Here are some simple tips:

  • Pick up any litter along the trail.
  • Burn all your toilet paper and bury your faeces, make sure you go at least 50m away from any water source.
  • Drink tap water instead of mineral water as plastic bottles are an unnecessary waste.
  • Stick to the trails to prevent erosion and damage to fragile alpine flora.
  • Ensure all rubbish is packed and bring them back down to the villages.

Insurance :
All tour participants should obtain their own personal insurance which covers medical and emergency evacuation at a minimum. You will of course also want cover for loss or damage to personal effects, flight or trip cancellation etc. Please ask us for advice.

Final tips!

  • To ensure that you have the best time possible, please respect local traditions, customs, values and the environment.
  • Respect privacy when taking photographs.
  • Your attempts at speaking some French or Italian will open hearts and break the ice!
  • Protect the natural environment, see above.

Activities

If you whish you can pay an extra to extend the validity of you Jungfrau travel pass of 1 days allowing you to enjoy a cruise on Thunersee or Brienzersee lakes on first or last day.

Your first aid kit

For the medication and pain relievers listed below, we recommend that you check with your doctor beforehand, adding what you need based on personal requirements and the specificities of your trip.

Gear list

What we supply for your trek:
We provide 1 set for every 4 participants, which includes detailed hiking maps of the region, and a roadbook describing your itinerary and trip (a lot of tips and some alternative routes are included).

You will have access to our 24/24 7/7 support hotline to assist you during your trip.
Each participant will have access on his phone to our "Roadbook" app which includes an itinerary descriptions as well GPS guidance.

What you need to bring:
If you don't have the luggage transfer option, pack light, remember that you will have to carry all your stuff during the whole trip. We recommend that your backpack doesn't exceed 10 to 15% of your weight. Take only the essentials.

Essentials :

  • Hiking backpack. A chest strap and waist strap are essential to help to distribute the weight. The size 20 L to 30 L.
  • Comfortable and worn in hiking boots.
  • Warm hat.
  • Cap.
  • Sun glasses.
  • Good quality Merino Wool walking socks.
  • Base layer tops
  • Merino Wool is the best choice.
  • Warm mid-layer tops.
  • A water and windproof layer (jacket and pants) eg. Gore-Tex.
  • 1x Walking trousers.
  • Light gloves.
  • Shorts.
  • Buff or Snood.
  • A natural or synthetic down jacket.
  • Casual clothes & footwear for evenings. One set is enough as you will not wear them for a long time.
  • Nightwear and underwear.
  • Sandals or flip flops.

Essential accessories:

  • Personal toiletries: shampoo, soap, shavers, moisturizer, etc.
  • Ziplock bags are handy for convenient leak-proof storage.
  • Sun block and lip balm.
  • Electrical socket adapter.
  • Energy bars/snacks.
  • Personal first aid kit + any personal medications you need to take.
  • Phone, Camera, batteries and charger.
  • Airtight and waterproof ‘dry bags' are great for keeping your clothes dry and storing your dirty laundry separate from clean clothes!
  • Head torch and batteries (spare batteries too).
  • Walking poles are highly recommended on Alps paths.
  • Cash & Cards (Euros and Swiss Francs).
  • Pocket knives or cutlery can be useful for picnics.
  • WATER - please be able to carry 2 litres of water.

Useful extras:

  • Binoculars.
  • Book to read or Kindle.
  • Notebook and pen.
  • Ear plugs.

Note: All of these items can be purchased there. Please ask us if you'd like some advice about where to go to get any gear.

What to take with you in your day pack:
Please carry the following in your day pack, as a minimum:

  • 2 liters of water.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat, lip balm.
  • Warm fleece or thermal layer and gloves.
  • Water proof layer.
  • Lunch
  • Head torch.
  • Hand sanitizer/soap and toilet paper.
  • Your camera.
  • Any money you want for snacks/drinks along the trail.
  • Important - take any personal medications you require during the day - you will not see your kit bag until evening.

First aid kit:
It is recommended that you bring a small personal medical kit including your preferred painkillers, throat lozenges, plasters, strapping tape for blisters, etc. If you are taking regular medication you MUST bring those medicines with you PLUS an extra supply in case one pack is lost. If you have any allergies and/or take any medications, you MUST advise us when booking your trek.
